So you've just arrived in London to study design. You know where to get good coffee, tequila cocktails, Vietnamese food, vintage clothes and imported magazines, but where do you source fabrics? That very specific type of button you need? Who can help with production?

Well, 1 Granary is always here to help, so we asked a few people who've learnt the best spots in town over time. From sourcing materials to manufacturing essentials, consider this a guide for young designers, by young designers.

Oh, and please leave a comment with any other suggestions that we might have missed and we'll update the list.

Fabric

Woolcrest Textiles

6 Well St, E9 7PX

The number one most common answer to our survey, Woolcrest Textiles is a must for any young designer to know. Tucked away in Hackney, this institution has an ever-evolving collection of deadstock fabrics.

Cloth House

130 Royal College St, NW1 0TA

A London staple, Cloth House curates high-end fabrics, from wools to innovative textiles, with a focus on sustainability and craftsmanship. If you need unique materials, this is a safe bet.

Dalston Mill

69-73 Ridley Rd, E8 2NP

Dalston Mill is a designer favourite, stocked with everything from cotton to luxury silks. It's popular both for its well-curated selection and laid-back vibe inside.
